Death on the 10 FWY-- Border Patrol chases car with 21 immigrants
April 14, 2005
The Chevy Suburban couldn’t stop. There were 21 people inside. The Border Patrol chased the SUV. It was almost 4:00 A.M approaching Joshua Tree National Park, down the 10 FWY—the same road we had traveled only weeks before.
The Border Patrol threw a spike strip on the road—the SUV overturned—1 man was pinned under the car and killed—9 were badly injured and airlifted to local hospitals—the remaining 11 were taken to a processing center to be deported.
A CHP officer at the scene said, “It’s not the spike strip that caused the collision. It is the driver that caused the collision. The driver simply failing to stop like he was supposed to . . . caused the collision.”
The hunter blames the prey for the blood spilled in the chase.
