South Central Rain
South Central rain
gently raps upon the pavement
unlike the assailment
of cops on the youth of tomorrow
busting the marrow
out of their bones
with their batons.
South Central rain
with all the pain it accompanies
I think of all the dreams buried away--
are they coming back again?
South Central rain
makes me think back
of people who packed a sack
and left their native land in contraband
of knowledge and wisdom
to bring down a kingdom.
The South Central rain
warns the women and men
that the tide is rising and turning
illusions are burning
into the ground
faith is lost and courage found
people developing an awareness
of struggling classes--
those who enslave
and those wielding a glaive
or is it a scythe and a hammer?
it won't much matter
when they're pounding their way into the fray
to create in it's place great social change.
South Central rain
light and docile
for only a while
then turns into a hurricane.
